TEC Squad Completes More Than 100 Jobs

March 15, 2010

At the start of the current school year, the faculty, staff and students at Wells High School noticed a distinct group of TeraU students dressed in uniforms different from the rest of the student body. These elite students, who consistently give technical advice and support and repair technical equipment, make up the TEC Squad.

Members of the TEC Squad are current TeraU students who are chosen based on their academic excellence, technical expertise and exemplary behavior. These students have been trusted with the role of providing technical support for the faculty, staff and student body at Wells, and they are expected to behave responsibly and professionally at all times.

TEC Squad members have the responsibility of checking an online help desk daily to view existing problems (submitted by faculty and staff members in the school), and they are given different assignments, based on their availability and level of expertise. These technical support assignments can range from hardware and software installations to troubleshooting network issues. To date, the TEC Squad has successfully completed 128 jobs.

This opportunity is proving invaluable, as it is giving TEC Squad members the chance to gain essential work experience and put into practice what they have learned.

June 2, 2008

One of the primary student goals during Year 1 at TeraU is achieving IC3 Certification. To do this a student must obtain the following three certifications:

  • Key Applications Using Microsoft Office
  • Living Online Using Microsoft Internet Explorer

During the 2007–2008 academic year, ten TeraU students have the distinction of accomplishing this goal, namely:

  • Kianna Cunningham
  • Oscar Delgado
  • Miguel Diaz
  • Nigel Glozier
  • Flor Gonzalez
  • Vanyra Lopez
  • Lamar Meeks
  • Oscar Soto

Certiport's Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3) program, a certification covering broad-based computer and Internet literacy, has gained wide acceptance through the support of a number of credentialing authorities. IC3 is supported by CompTIA as the gateway to additional computer certifications, with certifications on desktop applications or higher-level technical skills, such as A+, being the next logical step for IC3 graduates.

IC3 has also been approved by the National Skills Standards Board to establish a recognized baseline for computer and Internet literacy. Academic support for IC3 has come through a credit recommendation from the American Council on Education (ACE), which allows IC3 certificate holders to obtain college credit from hundreds of two-year and four-year colleges that base college credit decisions on ACE credit recommendations.

TeraU Students Earn A+ Essentials Certification

June 18, 2007

During Year 2 at TeraU, a primary student goal is to achieve A+ Certification. The following students have the distinction of earning the CompTIA A+ Essentials (2006) certification during the 2006–2007 academic year:

  • Ziouck Gonzalez
  • Muhammad Khan
  • Tracey Terryberry

CompTIA A+ certification validates the knowledge and skills of entry-level computer service technicians. It is an international, vendor-neutral certification recognized by major hardware and software vendors, distributors and resellers. A+ confirms a technician's ability to perform tasks such as installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and basic networking.

An A+ credential is the perfect entry into an IT career, and business owners who employ A+ certified technicians notice an increase in revenue, customer satisfaction and employee retention. In fact, A+ is part of the certification track for corporations such as Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco and Novell. Other technology companies including CompuCom and Ricoh have made A+ certification mandatory for their service technicians.
